"Every year in this country, more men die by their own hand than in any war we are currently fighting. Most of them are not the men you would guess. They are the men in the third pew. The men who provide well. The men whose marriages are surviving.

Surviving a marriage is not the same as building one."

From the Prologue
The Root

Adam was in the room.

He said nothing.

"She also gave some to her husband who was with her, and he ate."

Genesis 3:6

Three words. Who was with her. Adam was not absent when the enemy approached his wife. He was standing there. He had the word of God in his mouth. And he said nothing.

Then God asked: "Where are you?" And Adam answered with the first sentence that has been running through the bloodline of every man ever since.

The book traces what that sentence costs. Where it hides. And what finally changes it.

The Architecture

Four movements. Twenty-three chapters. Two voices.

I

The Wound

What Adam left unprocessed and what it costs every marriage that inherits it.

II

The Blood

What the transfusion actually changes and why behavior modification cannot.

III

The Rebuild

The practical framework for building what survival never produces.

IV

The Threshold

What the wife carries and what she needs to hear that nobody says clearly enough.

What's Inside

Chapter by chapter. Wound by wound.

Chapter 1

The surgery Adam never processed and why it still runs in every man who inherits his blood.

Chapter 2

What he is actually afraid of and why provision cannot cover it.

Chapter 3

The distinction between dominion and accountability that most men have never heard named.

Chapter 4

What Eve saw when she looked to her side. Most wives will read this chapter twice.

Chapter 5

The question that runs under every conversation she tries to start.

Chapter 6

Where the wound hides when he thinks he has dealt with it.

Chapter 7

For the skeptic who sees the wound but does not yet trust the treatment.

Chapter 10

The difference between the blood and the behavior and why one works.

Chapter 14

What the Critic sounds like and why he never stops talking until you name him.

Chapter 16

Why the apology she heard did not produce the change she needed.

Chapter 19

What happens inside the person who keeps forgiving correctly and watches nothing change.

Chapter 20

The tool that makes sure you never sign another note without the right voice in the room.

Chapter 21

What repentance looks like when it finally has legs.

Chapter 23

A letter to the man who is not sure if it is too late.

From Chapter Sixteen

"Remorse that produces movement is repentance.

Remorse that produces only words is apology."

The chapter names the difference. The book shows what changes it.

The Framework

The TABLE

There is a question I ask men about an $8 answer that cost me four years of my marriage. The answer was always available. I just never had anyone in the room whose voice I trusted enough to ask.

The TABLE is the tool that makes sure you never sign another note without that voice.

It lives in Chapter Twenty.

Chapter Nineteen

The Compound Fractures

Chapter Nineteen names what actually happens inside the person who keeps forgiving correctly and watching nothing change.

If you've been there, you already know the list. It's in the book.

The Story Behind the Book

Two Weddings

Jasmine and I were married in a pastor's office on October 5, 2013. No aisle. No reception. Just a decision that everything would be different this time.

Ten years later, we renewed our vows in front of the people who watched us almost lose it. Her father walked her down the aisle she didn't have the first time.

The book is what happened between those two days.

What This Book Is

Not a self-help program.
A table.

For married couples

The surgical framework for what the wound has been doing in your specific marriage, and what changes it.

For engaged couples

What to name before you say I do and what you are hiding in the affection that love alone cannot cover.

For blended families

The specific wounds of stepparenting, co-parenting conflict, and the child who has your name but not yet your relationship.

For the skeptic

Chapter Seven is written for the person who sees the wound but does not yet trust the treatment.

Jasmine Hill

Co-founder of the 5230 Movement. Heart attack survivor at 39. The woman who stood beside a man who was not yet who he would become.

The Sequence

Why the Book Comes Before the Pathway

The Book: Pre-Op

He Woke Up Accountable gets him on the table. It names what has been running unnamed. It shows him what the surgery will require—and why it's worth it.

For her, it teaches her how to pray while he's in surgery. Not how to fix him. Not how to manage his healing. How to stand in the waiting room without losing herself.

The 30-Day Pathway: The Surgery

The Pathway is the actual operation. 30 days of structured formation addressing father wounds, generational patterns, emotional regulation, and arrested development.

You don't want to enter surgery without understanding what's about to happen. The book prepares you. The Pathway transforms you.

Start with the book. Both of you. Then walk the Pathway together.
